Kannada Rajyotsava has been celebrated every year on November 1 since 1956 with great pomp in our State Karnataka. Kannadigas celebrate this day as the Karnataka State formation day where all the Kannada language-speaking regions of South India were merged to form the State. On Nov 1st it is an official holiday in Karnataka and is marked with grand festivities and celebrations. The state’s red and yellow flags are hoisted across streets, in houses, and in government buildings to celebrate the foundation day. The official Kannada anthem, ‘Jaya Bharatha Jananiya Tanujate’ (Victory to you, mother Karnataka, the daughter of mother India), is sung as well.
CMRNPS too celebrated it online across grades 1-5. The teachers and the students were all dressed in the colours of the flag red and yellow. Students showcased their love for their beloved state, Karnataka by enthusiastically participating in this gala celebration. Students across grades spoke about the rich cultural heritage of the state and how Karnataka has been steadily progressing in every sphere – commerce, business, art, and culture.
The amazing facts about Karnataka were shared through PPT. Some students also sang songs in praise of Karnataka in Kannada. Though it was a short morning meeting, however, the students and teachers had a great time and utilised the short time effectively celebrating this state festival.

Kannada Rajyotsava, also known as Karnataka Formation Day or Karnataka Day, is celebrated on 1 November every year. On this day in 1956, all the Kannada-speaking regions of southwestern India were merged to form the state of Karnataka. To commemorate this special day of formation of this state, we celebrate the legacy of its rich culture and heritage with much pride and respect. And today is the 66th Kannada Rajyotsava.
Kannada Rajyotsava was celebrated with great enthusiasm at CMRNPS by the students of Grade 2 A along with their friends. Students showcased their talent and exhibited their love for their beloved state, Karnataka by enthusiastically participating in a patriotic celebration. Whether it was the melodiously sung “ithe Nadu Idhe Bashe” by Dheeshith, cultural performance by other children representing different regions in Karnataka, beautifully presented dance by Jahnavi to the song “ Hacchevu Kannadada Deepa”, Student’s talk by Shreyansh and Kyara about the formation and importance of Kannada Rajyotsava the children uplifted everyone’s mood.
The amazing facts about Karnataka added to the knowledge of the audience. The students were able to spread the fragrance of the Kannada language with their spectacular cultural performance which left the audience spellbound. Children also shared thought for the day and the current news headlines as part of the assembly. The special team from the class took an oath kind of by saying “Freedom in mind, Strength in words, Pureness in our blood, Pride in our souls, Zeal in our hearts. Let’s salute the spirit of Karnataka!
The thing I like the most about this day is the way people celebrate it, without considering religion as a factor. I think as a nation, we do have a lot of things and differences to differentiate us and separate us. But there is something beyond that which makes it a happier moment – it is the ability to blend these things together, blending the differences and identifying the common factors within us and uniting in that front. After all, when it comes to people skills or leading a nation, we build only on our similarities and never on the differences, don’t we? Unity in diversity is better than unity in similarities. As we all strongly believe that Unity in diversity makes a better society. It helps everyone to stand together. It creates a sense of oneness among people with differences. It is the reason behind our prosperity. We have a diversity of religions but we are all Indian. For centuries unity in diversity is a hallmark of Indian culture. Karnataka is one state with its rich cultural heritage, welcoming a diverse population. Let us respect diversity and be united!!.
The celebration ended with the slogan “Jai Kannada, Jai Karnataka” raised by children. The event generated a sense of pride in the minds of the audience, for being part of a culture that is so rich and vibrant.
